Nice smoker with minor problem

I've been grilling on the Brinkmann Smoke 'N Pit Pitmaster Deluxe for a couple years and think it's great. I really don't take as good care of it as I should though. As for the grill itself, I find that it is the most forgiving smoker you can find (especially at this price). Even if you aren't paying attention to the charcoal and it almost goes out you can just quickly add more. This will bring the temperature right back up to where you need and won't affect the flavor of the meat at all. I think this is because of the circulation of the air inside the lid. This brings up one important point: learn how to moderate the air flow for the best results. You don't want it too hot or too cold, and the way to control this is the amount of wood or charcoal you have lit as well as the vents on the side.

Overall this smoker does a terrific job on such things as sausage, brisket, ribs, ham, and steaks which is the main reason you would buy one. I definitely think it's worth the money but there was one thing that bothered me enough to dock it a star. You can't seem to use the entire cooking surface as some of the food will become quite burnt. I found out the hard way that the area close to the fire box gets so hot that you will burn the meat. This limits what I can do with it and I really wish Brinkmann would address it.

Even though the Pitmaster Deluxe has this problem I still recommend it. It does a great job at smoking, especially when you learn how to moderate the temperature inside. I am going to order a new one soon to replace my old one since it's getting a bit rusted. I do plan on covering the new one though.
